I prefer
The second definition
'Sober thoughtfulness'
To the prolonged state of...

For everyone
Must have some
Remembering time,
When things long gone...

Are remembered
Thoughtfully...
Sometimes tearfully,
But then today comes back...

Things to do,
People to interact with,
Looking up to tomorrow,
Times long gone return to the past...

Faint echoes of
Yesterday
Are not to be lived in
But remembered... Occasionally...

Today
Is greeted with hope
With the creation of
New memories... New blessings...

Each day
We give ourselves
The gift of being in this day...
The gift of new beginnings...

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (

So here
it is again,
a new year starts…

Daily life
cycles in
as we wake each day…

The cold days
& even colder nights
keep us bundled up & thinking…

As we
contemplate
new beginnings of life…

Cleaning out
lots of accumulation,
not only of stuff but of thoughts…

Looking forward
to new adventures,
new places to explore… new days…

Looking up
to Hope, Light,
and peaceful spirit of mind…

Keep our eyes
on the Light of life,
salvation of spirit, joy of days…

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. (
Psalms 90:12, 17
KJV)

<![CDATA[Packing, again]]>Thu, 03 Jul 2014 14:31:53 GMThttp://excursionsindailyliving.com/1/post/2014/07/packing-again.html Well,
I am once again
packing
for a trip
to a far, far away place…

Considering
the climate change
I must think
layers
of warmth & possible rain…

It will
take all day
just to get there
by airplane
& with transfer…

My suitcase
overfloweth
so I will be
reconsidering
& evaluating my needs…

Counting
down the days now
& watching the
weather there
& looking forward to…

Anticipation
is growing
& plans are formulating
& soon, oh so soon,
that travel day will arrive…

<![CDATA[Free]]>Thu, 04 Jul 2013 13:23:08 GMThttp://excursionsindailyliving.com/1/post/2013/07/free.htmlPicture
To be me...
I live in a country
where I am
blessed
& I can travel
from here to there
without much thought...

Free to be
& gather
in my church
of my choice
with others singing
praises to God almighty
whenever I choose, in peace...

Free to be
separate & independent
taking each day
as it comes
expressing my
personal opinions
without worry of persecution...

Free to be
gathered with others
doing things, talking freely,
voting for various folks
that I can openly complain about
or fuss about
or even talk to in open discussion...

Free to live
day to day
& travel from place to place
because others still give
their life & time to
protect me & serve our country
in distant, foreign, troubled places...

Free in life
& thought & actions
free to be me
because I was born
in this time & place
& live where I do...
blessed to be me...

Conversational drops

Seems that
In recent months
I have acquired the ability
To add known musical folks names
To my conversational tidbits...

First I must say
Agnes West, Florence, AL, gave me
My very first lessons
While she continues to teach
And promote my dulcimer training...

Sarah Morgan, TN, gave lessons
At our last year's dulcimer festival
And this year we had
Well-known local players
Jerry & Louise Todd, Athens, Alabama...

Also take for example
Just the other day
When Don Pedi's name, NC,
Was mentioned & I said
'I had a lesson from him!'...

Then Bing Futch, FL,
Was talked about
And I nodded, 'yes,
I took a lesson from him!... Recently!'
And now I can add other names...

Traveled all the way to Portland, OR,
To see & hug my son, Ryan,
Also planned a visit
to Columbia River Gorge Mt. Dulcimer Festival
With diverse instructors there...

A Force of nature Robert
'Wild dulcimer' music maker...
Zanetti of nimble fingers Nina
Caressing musical melodies..
Both teaching us & performing concerts...

There were three days packed full
of musical information...
Rogers sisters lovely Erin & Amber
Shining talents teaching us
with enthusiasm...

So as I mark two years
Of dulcimer training
As I continue to add folks I meet
& places I have been...
Musical celebration of life...

2013 Columbia River Gorge Dulcimer festival

Many things to do
Busy, busy, busy
With food fantastic &
Lots of interesting, friendly folks...

Challenging teaching,
New music acquired,
Peaceful, tranquil environment,
And borrowed dulcimer...

Seems like the top
Of the world...
No TVs or radio in my room
Removed from all things...

But cell phone connected,
Had my open mike performance
Of 'covered bridge waltz'
No major stops, flowed right along...

Adventures in the northwest
Adding additional Internet connects,
Sharing music, laughter
And life stories...

Lurking

Around every
Corner
Is the mentality
That says
Do whatever
You can get away with...

It is whispered
& listened to
By those of weakness
Who give in to evil
& have no compassion
Or concern for others...

Their evil nature
Is given full reign
To live among us
& practice their perversions
For we must begin to see
That without God we are lost...

Evil loves darkness
& hides in secret places
Outward costume of normal
Inward deception of mind
Crafty deceiver of others
Devil's darkest seed...

Until we acknowledge
We do not struggle with man
But with powers & principalities
And doers of evilness
That our mind cannot
Comprehend...

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

<![CDATA[Fun filled & laughing]]>Fri, 03 May 2013 22:19:04 GMThttp://excursionsindailyliving.com/1/post/2013/05/fun-filled-laughing.htmlPicture
How often
can a person say
a vacation
week was filled with
things to do & laughter...
& almost chocking on laughter... At the end!

Basically
we planned to go
& knew there were
numerous things we could do...
Which we plotted
after our arrival...

Each day had
at least one major event
one thing we wanted to do
& numerous other activities
we just fitted in, as need be...
Free or half price items enticed us to do 'em...

We even managed
a $1.50 breakfast
on three days &
a photography class
with historic information & tips...

Two local shows we scheduled
& a shopping day
on what was to be a rainy day
So we used our time wisely
& made it to the dulcimer shop...

Every day
was filled to the brim
then we had two free
music shows to attend
at the place where we stayed...

Our ending plans did go
somewhat awry
for we planned to stop
at a festival on our way home
but it was too rainy & so we opted not...

After finding a parking place
walking through the rain
& hesitating at the entry gate
We giggled, laughed & turned around
back to the car... Favorite restaurant a better choice...

All in all
one of the better vacations for it
flowed from day to day
with activities & laughter & choices
decisions made in unity without hassle...

<![CDATA[Middle of the week]]>Fri, 03 May 2013 22:10:14 GMThttp://excursionsindailyliving.com/1/post/2013/05/middle-of-the-week.htmlMiddle of the week

Once you retire
the middle of the week
doesn't have
the same meaning...

Hump day,
the slide
to the weekend...
Truly every single day is
gloriously celebrated...
Except for allergy...

Sometimes
each day blends
into the next day
the day of the week lost...

Suddenly
a day has passed
then a week
then a month of daily living...

Being retired
means many things...
When allergy hits
I can moan & groan at home...

No need to medicate
& go in to work,
I can medicate
& sleep in...
Wonder if that extends my allergy...

Hopefully, I will not
Lose May as I lost January
To allergy symptoms
Seems my
allergy cycles are closer...

<![CDATA[Recipes]]>Mon, 25 Mar 2013 01:10:01 GMThttp://excursionsindailyliving.com/1/post/2013/03/recipes.htmlPicture
Recipes, for my son

Just thinking that you might want
to have some family recipes…
Cornbread is a good start
since I just finished making some…

Your Grandmother Evans
made cornbread with half corn meal,
half flour, one egg, & milk…
mix to pudding texture…

Cook at 400 degrees until done,
depending on pan, fifteen to twenty minutes…
If you preheat the oven before putting in the iron pan,
you’ll get a golden bottom to the bread…

I modified that
with ¼ flour, ¾ cornmeal, egg,
I prefer buttermilk
rather than milk…

But milk will do
since I cook my cornbread
in a small iron pan,
cups is the measure…

One of my Dad’s sisters
added 1 tablespoon mayonnaise…
that makes a smooth
textured cornbread…

My Mother called it
the ‘northern’ version…
don’t know why…
since we all lived in the South…

I’ve used either
brand of cornmeal
even used
cornbread packages…

Whatever you use
be sure to eat some
hot from the oven… as a sampling…
butter applied…

my Dad always
had his hot cornbread
crumbled in buttermilk…
yuck, milk for me…

by the way,
my creamed, mashed potatoes
has a tablespoon of mayonnaise added…
when you were not looking… :D
